A Comment of Jeffery V. Johnson

I've spent the day searching for relevant scales in the broad work and organizational social support domain.  I've used a computerized database (HaPI, an acronym for Health and Psychosocial Instruments) developed by the Behavioral Measurement Database Services and available through OVID. Here are some 'hits' -- (Many of which seem to be available in a new book published by Sage -- Taking the Measure of Work by Fields, D.L., 2002)

a. Organizational Trust Inventory (Naquin & Paulson, 2003)

b. Organizational Fairness Questionnaire (Griffeth & Gaertner, 2001)

c. Organizational Power (Maas, 1988)

d. Perceived Power Equity Scale (Fenaughty, 2003)

e. Management and Governance Survey, Alexander et al, 2001

f. Worker Empowerment Scale (Leslie et al, 1998)

g. Empowerment at work scale (Fields, 2002)

i. Organizational resources for stress management (Quick, 1990)

j. Work Climate Survey (Deci, 1989)

k. Organizational Environment questionnaire for human service workers

(Foster-Fishman, 1999

l. Perceptions of management support (Morris, 1999)

m. Perceptions of Fair Interpersonal Treatment Scale (1998)

n. Conflict in the workplace (Nicotera, 1994)

o. Relations with other departments or units measure

p. Organizational control (Khandwalla, 1994)

q. Percieved Organizational Support -- this has been used a great deal!

Developed by Eisenberger -- does anyone know about this one?

I could go on here, but the point is that there is a great deal of work that has been done in organizational psychology and sociology and in management studies that have looked at some of these variables -- perhaps not exactly from our perspective, but nevertheless, there is overlap – particularly when it comes to the organizational justice measures.
